When January Feels Grey, Choose Colour

Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2026: Cloud Dancer

You may have seen that Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2026 is Cloud Dancer a soft, off-white shade intended to represent calm and simplicity.

And while I understand the sentiment behind it, I’ll be honest… it’s not a colour that excites me.
In the depths of winter, when energy can feel low and motivation harder to find, I don’t believe neutrality is always what we need.

January has a very particular feel, doesn’t it?

The festive glow has faded, the days are still short, and everything around us can feel a little quieter and a little greyer. While I love January as a time for reflection and easing into the year gently, I also believe it’s when we need uplift the most.
I am back to work seeing clients but I am also taking it very easy on myself.

Christmas brought a lot of the usual stress, and I am letting myself rest and recover.

With the girls back to school, I feel I have some space. I am also aware that I need rest and recovery, its not easy going back to reality.

For me, this is exactly the time when colour matters most.

Colour has the power to:

  • Lift your mood

  • Boost your confidence

  • Change how you feel in your body

  • Influence how you show up in the world

That’s one of the reasons colour analysis has become so popular again and why it’s a core part of how I work with my clients.

When you understand your best colours, getting dressed becomes easier, your wardrobe works harder for you, and you feel more confident without having to think about it.

And just as important as what we wear is how we listen to our bodies at this time of year.

January often comes with pressure to do more, be better, start diets, overhaul routines, and jump straight into intense exercise. While those intentions can come from a good place, they can also feel overwhelming especially when energy is low and your body is still in winter mode.

It’s okay to slow down.

It’s okay to wait until February or March or whenever you feel ready.

Your body will always guide you if you listen. Gentle starts, small changes, and kindness towards yourself are far more sustainable than pushing through when you’re already exhausted.

When the weather is dull and the days are dark, introducing colour into your wardrobe can be a small but powerful act of self-care. A bright knit, a colourful scarf, bold earrings, a pop of lipstick these little choices can completely change how you feel.
And this isn’t about trends.
It’s about energy.

I came across some bright, warm, cosy knits that will make you feel instantly better over on Cockleshellcrosshaven.ie

You don’t need a whole new wardrobe just one or two intentional pieces that make you feel brighter, more confident, and more like you. If black, grey and navy have crept back in after Christmas (they always do!), consider this your gentle reminder that you’re allowed to choose joy even in January.

Let colour support you this season.

Let it lift you, energise you, and remind you that brighter days are coming even if spring still feels far away.

Colour analysis is included in my image consultations and also forms part of my Happy Wardrobe Edit, where we look at what you already own, identify the colours that truly suit you, and make sure your wardrobe reflects who you are now not who you used to be.

If your wardrobe is feeling tired or you’re craving a fresh start this year, my one-to-one image consultations or Happy Wardrobe Edit are the perfect January reset. Just book a call — I’d love to help you shine.
Here’s to starting the year with intention, confidence, and a little more colour

Warmly, Sarah
